ASHENEWS reports that Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has announced that the new moon of Shawwal had not been sighted, and has declared Wednesday, April 10, as the day of Eid-el-Fitr.
A statement signed by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Prof. Sambo Junaidu, and made available to newsmen in Sokoto on Monday evening, said the council accepted the report of the National Moon Sighting Committees across the country, which confirmed that the moon of Shawwal was not sighted
The President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs accordingly declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.

“His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
“The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress, and development of the country, also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-el-Fitr,” the statement read.
ASHENEWS reports that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Monday, also said the crescent of Shawwal has not been sighted, a situation that would make Muslims continue with Ramadan fasting on Tuesday.
It also added that the Eid-el-Fitr would be held on Wednesday, April 10 to mark the beginning of the new Islamic month.
“The crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid-el-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024.

“May Allāh allow us to utilise the remaining moments of this blessed month to engage in that which pleases Him, may He accept our siyām, qiyām & a’māl & may He allow us to witness many more Ramadāns in good health. Āmīn,” it wrote.
The Sultan had declared March 11, 2024, as the first day of Ramadan and instructed Nigerian Muslims to commence fasting.
“Reports of positive moon sightings were received from Muslim leaders and organizations across the country which we duly accepted.
“Consequently, tomorrow, Monday 11th March 2024 becomes the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH
“We therefore call on all Muslims in the country to commence fasting accordingly,” he had directed.
