The federal government of Nigeria, through the interior board, has sanctioned 224 officers across four key paramilitary agencies while promoting 95 senior officers, in a move aimed at strengthening discipline and professionalism in the country’s internal security services.
The decision was made during the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) meeting, chaired by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Speaking after the meeting, the Board Secretary, Major General Abdulmalik Jibrin (rtd), announced the outcomes, which included dismissals, compulsory retirements, loss of seniority, and rejection of appeals against previous dismissals.
According to Jibrin, disciplinary actions were taken against officers from the Nigeria Correctional Service (143), Nigeria Immigration Service (31), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (46), and the Federal Fire Service (4).
In contrast, the Board approved the promotion of 95 senior officers across the four services, including the elevation of:
- Four Assistant Controllers General (ACGs) to Deputy Controllers General (DCGs) and 31 Controllers to ACGs in the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS);
- Six ACGs to DCGs and 20 Comptrollers to ACGs in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS);
- Three ACGs to DCGs and two Controllers to ACGs in the Federal Fire Service (FFS); and
- Three ACGs to DCGs and 22 Commandants to ACGs in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The Board also approved the establishment of a committee to harmonize schemes of service across the four paramilitary agencies. Additionally, it announced the commencement of an online recruitment process for new intakes into the services and the CDCFIB secretariat, starting Monday, July 14, 2025.
Jibrin urged prospective applicants to disregard unofficial links and avoid fraudulent recruitment offers, assuring the public that the process will be transparent, free, and in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further disclosed that the next round of promotion exercises will begin in August and run through November 2025. The Minister congratulated the newly promoted officers and charged them to bring renewed energy and commitment to their new roles.
