Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, has observed that with the security challenges that the country is facing on many fronts, it is necessary for all citizens to rally round President Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure that the situation is brought under control.
He made the assertion Tuesday at the presentation of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem to him at the Government House, Sokoto.
“We must not play politics with the security situation in the country. We must all face this problem together and commit Nigeria into prayer as well as support the president to engender peace,” the governor said.
He reassured that his administration is committed to the welfare of the families of all ex-service men.
According to him, the brief ceremony, which signalled the commencement of next year’s celebration is in line with the directives of the Federal Government to commemorate fallen heroes who fell in the line of duty, as it is usually observed annually.
“We will observe all events including prayers in mosques and churches,” the governor added.
Presenting the emblem to the governor, the Chairman of the Sokoto State chapter of the Nigeria Legion, Assistant Controller General (retired) Aliyu Abdullahi Danchadi, said the occasion kicked off earlier as a result of the zeal and commitment of Gov. Tambuwal.
Expressing gratitude to the governor who provided them with the logistics to kickstart the celebration, Danchadi said the day is organized and celebrated by the Federal Government annually under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence.
He explained that the emblem was launched, as is traditionally done, on Oct 25 by the Federal Government and states were directed to follow suit. He said with the backing of the state government, the state legion got the emblem last week.
