The federal government has approved an Emergency Communications Centre (ECC) for Zamfara to support the fight against insecurity in the state.
Dr Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja when he received Gov. Bello Muhammad in his office.
The statement was signed by his Spokesperson, Mrs Uwa Suleiman.
“An Emergency Communications Centre has been approved for Zamfara State and we will ensure that it is deployed and fully operational in the next few months.
“This facility will in no small measure aid in the fight against the challenges of insecurity and will also create jobs in the state,” Pantami said.
Earlier, Muhammad stated that the impact of digital economy was yielding positive results in Zamfara as the minister had successfully bridged the access gaps in several communities that lacked telecommunications services.
He commended Pantami for the speedy response to the request and prayed he considered the establishment of more centres to properly engage the youth.
He emphasised that the success recorded by the digital economy sector was hinged largely on the exemplary leadership provided by the minister and urged other public officials to emulate him.
“We are here today to express our profound gratitude to the minister for his speedy intervention in ensuring that Mobile Network Operators establish their presence and services in areas where they did not previously exist in the state.”
The governor hailed the establishment of ICT centres in various schools in Zamfara, which was encouraging digital skills and engaging the youth positively.
