Niger state governor Abubakar Sani Bello has described as false, malicious and misleading social media reports linking him with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as its contractor for PVCs and card readers.
News have gone viral on social media platforms alleging that “INEC renews contract for PVC, Card readers to company linked to Tinubu and Gov Sani-Bello, APC chieftain”.
But Sani Bello in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noel-Berje mailed to ASHENEWS on Saturday, said he is neither a contractor with the electoral umpire nor share ownership of any company with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He expressed concern that some people could chose to use social media platforms for negativity, making every efforts to malign the reputation of others.
The governor, who maintained that he won governorship election in Niger state twice without having to do any contract with INEC, wondered how something that has never existed can be renewed.
“I contested for Governorship and won in 2015 and I am now finishing my second term, all these without having any contract with the electoral umpire, how then can a contract that has never been done with someone be renewed?
“While it baffles me what the originator of this lie tends to achieve, it is really disturbing that some politicians have become desperate and are trading on dangerous paths in their quest for power and most worrisome are the people aiding in circulating unverified information,” he stated.
He enjoined the general public to regard the information as completely false but remain focused and prepared for the 2023 general elections to vote for the right candidates and not desperate politicians.
