ASHENEWS reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to avoid plying Gombe-Bauchi Highway following a heavy downpour last Sunday, that collapsed a bridge at Kalanga village.
The Corps spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem, said the collapsed culvert at Kalajaga village had made the road unpliable.
“According to a report gathered by our operatives from the field, there was a failed culvert at Kalajaga village.
“This is 118 km Bauchi – Gombe road whereby the heavy rainfall washed away the culvert between Bauchi to Gombe, making the road not motorable.
“The culvert is completely washed away and the road cut off and an alternative route is advised,” he said.
However, he explained that their operatives are fully on ground controlling traffic and diverting vehicles at the affected section of the road and ensuring safety for all.
He advised motorists to take Abuja – Yola Road as alternative routes.
After the incident, Kazeem also said many passengers were left stranded.
However, this is not the first time the bridge is collapsing.
Nafiu Abdullahi, a resident of Gombe said the bridge has been, consistently, collapsing during each rainy season only for the government to fix it temporarily.
