ASHENEWS reports that De Renaissance Patriots Foundation has lost its president, Hakeem Adelani Adeniji-Adele.
He died in the early hours of Friday, August 2, 2024 at the age of 66, according to the Secretary General of the Foundation, Mr. Yomi Tokosi, who announced the demise of the President.
“With heavy hearts, I announce the tragic loss of our President, Prince Adelani Gbogboade Adeniji-Adele. We lost him early this morning to the cold hands of death. His dedication, resourcefulness, and leadership will be sorely missed.”
Details will be made available later by the royal family.
Prince Adeniji-Adele will be remembered for his fight for the rights of Lagos State natives, who have been deprived of their rights as landowners and indigenes since the return of democracy in 1999.
Leaders of De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, including Professor Adele Jinadu, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Trustees; Maj-Gen Tajudeen Olanrewaju, Alternate BOT Chairman; and Retired Justice Solomon Olusola Humponu-Wusu, Honoured Trustee, have reacted to the shocking death of their President.
Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd), an eminent Nigerian and former Minister of Communications, said, “By Adelani’s departure, Lagos State has suffered a great loss. Lagos State has lost a prominent son, Prince Adelani Adeniji-Adele, a Prince of the Royal House of Lagos. Prince Adelani was a cerebral historian, a thoroughbred Lagosian, and a strong freedom fighter in the struggle to reclaim Lagos State for the ÌBILE indigenes.”
“His death will leave a big vacuum in the quest for making the indigenes participate in the governance of the state. He was at the forefront, leading the way as the president of De Renaissance Patriots Foundation. In his role, he was responsible, resolute, and served with energy, integrity, and commitment to our cultural organization’s goals. We pray for the repose of his soul. Rest in peace, our Prince and leader,” General Olanrewaju said.
