The Dundaye, Gumburawa and Gidan Bubu Districts Development Association, is seeking for the creation of Dundaye local Government, from the present Wamakko local government, Sokoto state.
This request was coming as the National Assembly (NASS), is making another attempt to review the extant 1999 Constitution, capped with the recent Nationwide, Zonal Public Hearings conducted on the Proposed Alterations to it.
To this effect, the Association had presented a Memorandum at the Public Hearing conducted at the North West, Sokoto Centre, chaired by Senator Adamu Aliero, assisted by Senator Aliyu Wamakko and other Senators from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
The Memorandum was presented by the Chairman of the Association, Muhammad Dundaye, on behalf of the three Districts.
He saluted the commitment, courage and devotion of the National Assembly, for deeming it proper to amend the 1999 Constitution.
According to him, the invaluable efforts has availed the communities of the t three Districts to present the request of the proposed Dundaye local government.
The Chairman said: “The National Assembly with due respect, deserves commendation for setting up the committee on merit, adding, ” and we pray for you for a very successful national assignment.”
Dundaye disclosed that the Association based it’s request on some reasons that include: Geographical location and culture, population, occupation and revenue generation.
Others are: Agricultural potentialities, healthcare services , availability of mineral resources and myriad of other reasons.
“It is worthy for the committee to note that the most peaceful and prestigious university in Africa, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, is located in the Dundaye, Gumburawa and Gidan Bubu Districts.
“The committee should also know that, the move and struggle for the creation of Dundaye local government dates back to 1995 and the related documents have been submitted before it, to buttress our argument.
“Once again, we thank the National Assembly for giving us the opportunity to present this Memorandum, with the hope that, same will be put into consideration in the quest for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution.”
He also solicited the support of all the critical stakeholders, to ensure the success of the move for the creation of the proposed Dundaye local government, for the development of the area.
They include: The federal and Sokoto state governments, Senator, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Member, House of Representatives, representing the area, Ahmad Kalambaina, his Sokoto State House of Assembly colleague, Murtala Maigona, Chairmen of both APC and PDP, Wamakko local government.
Others are the members of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University community, traditional institutions and other stakeholders
