The Northern Emancipation Network (NEN) on Tuesday said the recent successes recorded by the federal troops in dislodging bandit strongholds in Katsina and Sokoto states are encouraging and reassuring to the North.
Referring to President Buhari’s recent vow to leave behind a revamped force, NEN, through its National Secretary, Suleiman Abbah, said the successful onslaught that dislodged the camp of Gwaska, and other notorious bandit cells in Katsina and Sokoto represents a major step up in the activities of the federal troops as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari recently.
“We therefore commend the successes of our gallant troops and the strong will of President Buhari in the fight against banditry and insurgency, and applaud the new spirit of cooperation among our communities, and appreciate the support of our religious leaders across the country who are assisting with prayers.
“We cannot forget that eight years ago, virtually the entire North was a battlefront, and the nation was a hostage of Boko Haram. Today we have a vastly-improved security atmosphere all over the North East with Boko Haram pinned to enclaves.
“We must at least, say thank you to President Buhari as he has delivered on one of his promises, which was to improve our security.
“Nigerians living far away from the effects of the insurgency and banditry may be tolerated if they downplay the significance of the successes against this murderous insurgency and banditry. We from the North, however, understand what it means, and we daily thank God for giving us a president will the strong will to fight.
“We urge the government and security forces to sustain this tempo with resolve and awareness of their obligations under the law, as well as the knowledge that final victory will only be achieved with the entire national resolve behind every government efforts,” Abbah said.
