The Zamfara chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has put the state government on 21-day ultimatum to implement the national minimum wage of N30,000, which is already being enjoyed by workers in other states across the country.
The ultimatum came after deliberations by the State Executive Council Meeting of the union on Thursday.
The chairperson, Sani Halliru who briefed journalists shortly after the meeting said, the action was the only option left for the labour leaders because all promises, agreements and pledges made by the government had failed.
According to him, the leadership of the union had had failed meetings with various stakeholders including politicians and government officials to proffer solutions on the lingering N30,000 minimum wage.
Halliru said that the State Working Committee and the State Executive Council of the NLC had resolved to give the state government 21-day ultimatum after which they will embark on industrial action to fight for their rights.
“We will shutdown all sectors in the state, including private and public roads, electricity, hospitals, water board, among others,” the chairperson said.
According to him, the committee that was set by the state government led by Amb Bashir Yuguda Gusau was a delay tactics deployed to deceive members of the Union.
Haliru called on workers to give maximum support and corporation to ensure success of the latest action as unanimously agreed by the State Executive Council of the NLC.
