The Senate on Tuesday, rejected President Muhammadu Buhari’s nomination of Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The upper chamber rejected Onochie’s nomination in consideration of its Committee on INEC’s, which is chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya.
The committee recommended that Onochie be disqualified on the grounds that her nomination violated Section 14 (3) of the 1999 Constitution on the Principle of Federal Character.
It further observed that there is currently a serving commissioner from Delta state, where Onochie hails from.
