Following the bandits’ killing of the District Head of Gatawa, Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has imposed a curfew in Sabon Birni town, in Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state.
The curfew follows violent protests by youths over the killing of their District Head.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, announced that movement in the area is restricted between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM until further notice. The curfew is aimed at restoring law and order in the troubled community.

Hundreds of youths took to the streets, blocking major roads and setting bonfires in protest. Reports indicate that they torched the local government secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a courtroom. They also broke into a local government store, where they destroyed supplies of fertilizer.
Turakin Gobir, the son of the slain district head, informed reporters that security reinforcements had been deployed to the area. “We have been hearing gunshots since morning, but the protest is still ongoing at 8:00 PM, which indicates that the curfew is not yet fully effective,” he said.
The protesters are demanding a thorough investigation into the killing, insisting that those responsible must not escape justice. One of the protesters, Aminu Yusuf, called on the federal government to launch an investigation into the brutal murder, alleging that some politicians are being accused of involvement in the incident.
In a short video clip, Kabiru Isa, the son of the slain district head who was recently released by his abductors, accused a member of the State House of Assembly of being responsible for his father’s abduction.
