The Borno State Police Command has trained 80 personnel on “The Role of Nigeria Police Force in Credible Election in 2023”.
The training between February 15 and 19, 2023 held at the Zone 15 Police Headquarters in Maiduguri and the Police college (PCM) Maiduguri, under the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) Training Programmes.
Participants were drafted from the ranks of Police Constable (PC) to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
Topics discussed during the training workshop include:
i. Introduction on the historical background of Elections in Nigeria under successive Administration including colonial rule.
ii. Standard Operational Guidelines and Rules for Security Personnel
iii. Military incursion in politics.
iv. New Electoral Act; Key Changes and Impact
v. Statutory duties of the police in electoral process.
vi. Factors to be considered while preparing for an election e.g operational orders, surveillance and intelligence gathering.
vii. Barriers to effective police role at electoral process
viii. Crime Prevention and Control in general.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abdu Umar, represented by the Deputy Commissioner (Administration), DCP AM Bello stated that this training followed a series of training received by Officers of Borno State Police Command within the election campaign periods.
He appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, for his commitment to training, retaining and ensuring quality service.
Umar also commended the effort of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) for the training programmes initiated.
He charged the participants to use the knowledge received and reciprocate the gesture by ensuring quality service delivery.
At end of the training, the participants were asked whether they are ready for the election with the level of training received, and they all assured the public that with the level of training acquired the election would definitely be hitch Free.
