Relief has finally come on the way of commuters with the approval by the Federal government of the sum of N7 billion for the ‘urgent’ rehabilitation of the 46.3km Cham to Numan road.
The Federal Controller of Works in Adamawa, Mr Salihu Abubakar announced the approval of the rehabilitation on Saturday, while inspecting the road that links Gombe and Adamawa states.
He said work on the road, which has been in deplorable condition for many years, was delayed due to insufficient fund, adding that the approval of the fund by government was part of palliative to cushion the hardship of transporters and commuters plying the road.
According to him, rainy season had halted work on the project, thereby worsening its already deplorable condition.
He urged travelers using the road to be patient and exercise caution during the rehabilitation work.
The Site Manager of CGC Nigeria Limited, (which is the company handling the main construction), Mr Xu Hua attributed the snail speed of the project to non-release of funds.
