Zamfara state government has suspended the Emir of ‘Yandoto in Tsafe local government, Aliyu Marafa for conferring chieftaincy title on notorious bandit, Adamu Alieru.
Alieru was conferred with the title of Sarkin Fulani on Saturday, reportedly considering his present status as a ‘peace-maker’ within the emirate.
Reports also quoted an anonymous source from the palace who revealed that the state government was aware of the conferment.
But in its reaction in a statement on Sunday, the statement, through the Secretary to the State Government, Kabiru Balarabe announced the suspension of the Emir.
The state government also set up a six-man committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the conferment of the bandit leader as Sarkin Fulani.
Additionally, it appointed the District Head of ‘Yandoto, Mahe Garba Marafa to oversee the affairs of the Emirate.
“This is to inform the general public the Zamfara state government has dissociated itself from the alleged turbaning of a Sarkin Fulani by the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto of Tsafe local government area.
“In this regard, the State Executive Governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, MON (Shattiman Sokoto) has directed for suspension of the Emir with immediate effect.
“Accordingly, the Executive Governor has approved the appointment of a Committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the action of the Emir.
“The composition of the Committee is as follows:
a) Hon. Yahaya Chado Gora – Chairman
b) Hon. Yahaya Mohammed Kanoma – Member
c) Hon. Muhammad Umar Birnin Magaji – member
d) Hon. Lawal Abubakar Zannah – Member
e) Isa Muhammad Moriki (Retired Permanent Secretary) – Member
f) Bar. Musa Garba, Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice – Secretary
“In the meantime, Alhaji Mahe Garba Marafa, who is the District Head of ‘Yandoto is hereby assigned to take charge of the affairs of the Emirate,” the statement reads.
