The Sokoto state chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities on Saturday, elected its new officials.
Those elected are Mu’azu Habibu, chairman; Sani Dan’iya, vice chairman 1; Haliru Dahiru, vice chairman 2; Mukhtar Doki, general secretary; Nasiru Bunu, assistant secretary and Hafsatu Muhammad, chair lady of the association.
Others are Garba Na Makka, treasurer; Dahiru Ba’are, financial secretary; Mukhtar Gidan Igwai, auditor while Muhammad Binji was elected as public relations officer.
The association also elected Ibrahim Isa as Zonal Coordinator for Sokoto East; Munirat Tukur for Sokoto Central and Kabiru Bello for Sokoto South.
Speaking shortly after the election, a representative from the Ministry of Social Welfare who is also the principal of Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities, Bilyaminu Muhammad commended members of the union for the successful conduct of the election.
The outgoing chairman, Haruna Helele called on members to give similar cooperation to the new officials.
In his post-election speech, the new chairman, Habibu called on the state government to sustain its efforts in ensuring the welfare of persons with disabilities in the state.
He pledged to come up with new ideas aimed at moving the association forward.
