The Ebonyi chapter of the Nigerian Legion has appealed to the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru to offer them some farmland to enable them venture into food production.
Captain Fidelis Ogodo Rtd. State’s Chairman of the Legionnaires, made the appeal on Monday in Abakaliki during the grand finale of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
Ogodo said the importance of food production to the federal and state government could not be over-emphasised.
The chairman said the retirees were willing for farming if land could be given to them.
According to him, we are retired but not tired to engage in any meaningful economic activities if given the opportunity.
“The Legion is an offshoot of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Although, the members have retired from active service but they can engage themselves in meaningful activities to add value to the economic need of the nation.
“There is need for monthly subvention to the legion to enable them attend to her administrative needs,” Ogodo added.
Col Chris Ikefuna (Rtd) commended Armed Forces celebration, noting that he was ready to render more service to the nation.
Ikefuna, Manager of Defence Health Maintenance Limited for Ebonyi and Abia states said the Legionnaires had offered free medical services to some people with High Blood Pressure and Diabetes.
