The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki has announced the passing of its Bishop, Most Rev. Peter Nworie Chukwu, at the age of 60.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Vicar General, Donatus Chukwu, on behalf of the diocese.
The statement read: “I write to notify you that our beloved bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Peter Nworie Chukwu, has returned to the Father’s house.”

It expressed profound sorrow while entrusting the late bishop to the mercy of God.
According to the statement, Bishop Nworie Chukwu was born on November 5, 1965, ordained a priest on July 3, 1993, and consecrated and installed as the third bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki on August 19, 2021.
The diocese called on priests, religious, and the Christian faithful to keep the late bishop in their prayers during this period of mourning.
It added that funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.
