A media consultant, Abdulwaheed Adubi has called on Nigerians to downplay ethnic, religious and other sentiments in electing leaders, as the nation approaches the 2023 general elections.
The founder of Hawlaab Media Training and Research Centre (HMTRC), who made the call in a statement on Sunday, said that Nigerians must reason beyond mere sentiment as yardstick to elect leaders at federal, state and local government levels in the forthcoming elections.
In the statement titled, “2023, A Time To Reason Beyond Ethnic, Sentiment To Elect Worthy Leaders”, he stressed the need for Nigerians to embrace politics that is driven by merit rather than throw up base considerations.
“As a matter of fact, we must fight the temptation of ethnic, religious and other parochial considerations in making decisions to elect leaders who are expected to run the affairs for the development of our nation.
“There is a need for all Nigerians to work together irrespective of their differences and religious belief for the good of the nation,” he stressed.
He enjoined Nigerians to be more patrotic to their fathers’ land, adding that Nigeria must not collapse due to tribalism and neupotism.
Adubi who is also a political analyst, encouraged Nigerians to do away with any form of sentiment while electing their leaders.
“In 2023, Nigerians must get it right. We must elect worthy leaders for the good of all and sundry,” he said.
