The Sokoto State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has pledged to collaborate with both local and international organizations, including the State Chapter of the Agricultural Agenda Nigeria Initiative (AANI), to advance agricultural development in the state.
This commitment was made by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Muhammad Tukur Alkali, during a courtesy visit by members of the State Chapter of AANI, to his office.
Alkali emphasized the Sokoto State Government’s dedication—under the leadership of Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu—to transforming the agricultural sector.
He highlighted ongoing efforts, including the distribution of free fertilizers, improved seed varieties, and other essential agricultural inputs to farmers across all 23 local government areas of the state.
The commissioner assured the delegation of the ministry’s full support in achieving the goals of AANI, stressing the government’s openness to partnerships that would enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security.
Earlier, the Sokoto State Coordinator of AANI, Engr. Bashir Yusuf, briefed the commissioner on the organization’s mission and programs.
He explained that AANI is a federal non-governmental organization that works with both federal and state governments to boost food production and strengthen national food security.
He noted that one of AANI’s key focus areas is youth empowerment through agriculture by creating job opportunities for young people.
Engr. Yusuf was accompanied by the Project Manager, Muazu Danjabalu; Secretary, Umaima Abdullahi; and other members of the organization.
He thanked the commissioner for the warm reception and pledged the group’s commitment to supporting the government’s agricultural initiatives.
Also present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Almustapha Abubakar Alkali; Director of Agricultural Services, Abubakar Alaksim Kebbe; Director of Administration, Musa Muhammad; Director of Irrigation, Abdullahi Aliyu Raba; Director of Planning, Nasiru Bala Shagari; and Director of Produce, Nasiru Umar, among others.
