The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has unveiled a National Farmers’ Data Bank, Helpline, and Digital Identity Card aimed at uniting farmers and addressing decades of neglect in the agricultural sector.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, AFAN’s National President, Dr. Faruk Rabiu Mudi, said the initiatives are designed to give farmers a single, powerful voice and protect them from exploitation.
He lamented that despite constituting nearly 70 percent of Nigeria’s population, these category of people have remained marginalized and voiceless. According to him, the Farmers’ Helpline, officially announced as 0800-000-AFAN, which translates to 0800-000-2326,

Dr. Mudi stressed that sustainable food security in Nigeria can only be achieved through private-sector-driven agriculture, urging international partnerships and private funding to support farmers. He also tasked AFAN’s newly inaugurated advisory board with mobilizing resources and providing strategic direction.
Adding his voice, the President of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Aminu Goronyo, described agriculture as Nigeria’s greatest economic resource, capable of surpassing oil earnings if properly harnessed.
Similarly, the National President of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, Mr. Sunday Eze Obiora, warned that excessive importation of staple foods is undermining local production, threatening food security, and wiping out jobs. He urged government to listen to farmers and adopt policies that strengthen local agriculture and safeguard livelihoods.
