ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the Federal Ministry of Youths Development, to support its drive to achieve food security.
Through this agreement, the Niger state government will engage corps members posted to the state in agricultural activities.
Speaking shortly before signing the MoU at the Government House, in Minna, the state capital, the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago said the MoU is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for food security in Nigeria.
Bago, who noted that the state government was partnering with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the area of youth empowerment and food production described Nigeria’s youth population as a key resource in ensuring food sufficiency.
He explained that the partnership would enable the state to leverage the added manpower that the corps members offer.
The Governor further said that the state government is building the largest greenhouse estate in Africa with the capacity to employ a million people.
On her part, the Minister for Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim said that the agreement would support corps members to become self-sustaining considering the present economic changes.
