A biochemist, Mr Umar Farouq-Zubair, has urged both small- and large-scale farmers in the country to adopt the use of liquid fertilisers to improve crop yield and quality.
Farouq-Zubair, who is also the Managing Director of Zumar Industries Nigeria Ltd., made the call in an interview on Monday in Kaduna.
“Liquid fertilisers are safer for all crops and will improve product size and quality. They also reduce nutrient leaching in the soil and are ideal for high-yielding crop varieties,” he said.
He encouraged young people, especially graduates, to be innovative and not depend solely on government for employment.
Farouq-Zubair explained that his company produces agrochemicals such as herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and liquid fertilisers to support agricultural development in the state.
He added that Zumar Industries also manufactures household products including powdered detergent, bar soap, and pomade, which have created job opportunities for youths.
“We have recorded significant successes, including contracts, customer satisfaction, research, and innovation,” he noted.
However, Farouq-Zubair pointed out that the company still faces challenges, particularly the lack of government recognition and support.
