The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has cleaned up an illegal dumpsite in the Ketu area.
This cleanup happened on Saturday at a waste site that was not approved, located behind 68, Oduntan Street.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, said the cleanup was necessary because the site was causing harm to the environment and nearby residents.
He shared this update on Saturday morning through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account (@tokunbo\_wahab).
He said all the waste at the site had been removed, and that the agency would start monitoring the area to stop illegal dumping from happening again.
The commissioner said, “Our LAWMA team is now clearing waste at the illegal dumpsite behind 68, Oduntan Street, Ketu.”
He added that the site had been causing serious environmental problems in the area.
He also said, “We are removing all the waste and will start watching the area to stop this from happening again.”
He reminded people that dumping waste illegally is against Lagos State’s environmental laws and can harm public health.
He advised residents to report any illegal dumping by contacting LAWMA on X at @Lawma\_gov.
