The Kwara State Government has announced plans to establish a solar farm aimed at boosting socio-economic development across all 16 local government areas of the state through improved renewable energy generation.
The Commissioner for Energy, Mr AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniy, disclosed this on Wednesday in Erin-Ile, Oyun Local Government Area, during a technical inspection of the proposed site for the solar farm.
The inspection visit also included a courtesy call on the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye Adetona I, as part of stakeholder engagement efforts to foster community support and project acceptance.
AbdulGaniy said the state government remained committed to implementing sustainable renewable energy projects to improve power supply, stimulate economic growth, promote industrial expansion and ensure inclusive development across Kwara State.
According to him, the site inspection was part of strategic efforts to identify technically and environmentally suitable locations for deploying solar energy infrastructure in a sustainable and efficient manner.
The commissioner explained that the initiative is expected to enhance electricity supply, stimulate economic activities and improve the overall quality of life of residents through renewable energy-driven development programmes.
He noted that the inspection followed earlier assessments by Energy China, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and recent technical surveys conducted by the ministry to support data collection and energy planning for statewide implementation.
AbdulGaniy added that the process aligns with ongoing collaboration involving the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Energy China and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum on renewable energy policy coordination, technical support and funding frameworks.
He reaffirmed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to providing clean, reliable and affordable energy solutions as critical drivers of socio-economic growth and sustainable development in the state.
In his remarks, the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye Adetona I, commended the state government for the initiative, describing electricity as fundamental to community development and assuring full support for the project’s implementation.
