The Kogi State Government has pledged to resolve issues raised by cashew farmers regarding multiple taxation in the state.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Timothy Ojomah, representing Governor Usman Ododo, assured farmers during a press conference in Lokoja. The governor dismissed claims by the Cashew Farmers and Buyers Association concerning increased produce grading costs.
Ododo emphasized the new administration’s commitment to conducting business transparently and vowed to stabilize grading costs.
He refuted the existence of multiple taxation in the state, cautioning foreigners against unauthorized dealings with farmers, as grading costs remain unchanged.

The association’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Adam, urged the government to ease the tax burden on members, citing exorbitant charges compared to other states.
Adam highlighted disparaging inspection fees, with Kogi charging ₦30,000 per truck, significantly higher than neighbouring states such as Kano and Gombe, which charge ₦5,000.
Furthermore, Adam outlined various levies imposed on cashew buyers, including interstate levies, loading fees, and environmental charges, alleging excessive taxation in Kogi State.
