The Kebbi State Government has postponed the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival to 2026.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Deputy Governor Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida Argungu, who also chairs the festival’s main committee, announced that the decision was made after consultations with the Argungu Emirate Council.
“After thorough consultations, the emirate decided to reschedule the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, initially planned for February 2025, to 2026,” he said.
He explained that the postponement was necessary to allow for permanent renovations at festival venues and to ensure the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects, including road dualization in Argungu Township.
Despite the delay, he reassured the public of the government’s commitment to hosting a world-class festival that would celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Kebbi people.
“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the public, stakeholders, and participants. Together, we will work towards a brighter future for Kebbi State,” he added.
