Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has laid the foundation for the construction of the Dambatta–Diggol road in Dambatta Local Government Area and the Wasai–Baita road in Minjibir Local Government Area. These projects, with a combined cost of ₦2,161,406,383.50, span a total length of 15.077 kilometers.
Additionally, the governor commissioned the Dambatta Cattle Market, one of five cattle markets that have been reconstructed and upgraded at a total cost of ₦340 million.
These road and market projects are part of a broader set of infrastructural interventions in Kano, funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Lives and Livelihood Fund (LLF). These initiatives, executed through the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), aim to develop agro-pastoral systems, ensure food security, reduce poverty, and improve the livelihoods of the poor.
Inaugurating the road projects, Governor Abba described the move as a significant milestone, highlighting his administration’s commitment to establishing sustainable infrastructural and agricultural systems that will bring multiple socio-economic benefits to the people of Kano.
“For several years, the people living in communities affected by these projects have suffered untold hardships due to the lack of motorable roads. They have experienced huge economic losses because of the difficulty in transporting their farm produce to markets and have struggled to access basic healthcare and education services due to the poor condition of their roads,” the governor lamented.
Regarding the upgraded cattle markets, the governor stated that the initiative aims to modernize the state’s livestock markets, improve the condition of the animals, particularly by reducing mortality during transportation, and generally enhance the trading environment.
He added that the markets have been equipped with loading ramps, watering facilities, office spaces for market information, security posts, veterinary service infrastructure, public conveniences, and solar lighting to ensure security and enable trade at night.
“These infrastructures will not only foster the growth of livestock trade but will also create more employment opportunities for people in the localities,” the governor asserted, noting that this aligns with the vision outlined in the AKY development roadmap.
Governor Abba expressed profound appreciation to the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund for supporting the Kano State Government in undertaking life-changing interventions for farmers and pastoralists in the state. He urged the beneficiaries to make optimal use of the infrastructure and empowerment packages provided by the government through KSADP.
Speaking on behalf of the local communities, the District Head of Dambatta, Mansur Mukhtar, represented by Alhaji Ali Adnan, thanked the state government for its efforts in bringing development closer to the people.
