The Special Adviser on Special Duties to Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi, Shafi’u Abubakar-Zauro, has distributed bags of rice and cartons of spaghetti to about 1,500 beneficiaries in Zauro community, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area.
Speaking at the distribution on Sunday in Zauro suburb of Birnin Kebbi, Abubakar-Zauro said the gesture was aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community and alleviating some of their hardships.
He explained that the initiative was a continuation of a long-standing tradition of assisting the less privileged, which, he said, he inherited from his mentor, Gov. Idris.
“We inherited the culture of extending gestures to the less privileged members of the society from our leader and mentor, Gov. Nasir Idris.
“It is part of our responsibility to always identify with the needy,” he added.
Abubakar-Zauro noted that the intervention was not limited to food distribution, adding that several community-oriented projects had also been executed to improve the welfare of residents.
According to him, the initiatives include the provision of solar-powered street lights, boats for riverine communities and scholarships for children from less-privileged families.
He said leaders at all levels should be judged by the positive impact of their contributions to the development and well-being of their communities.
The governor’s aide added that the beneficiaries were carefully selected to ensure that the items reached those most in need.
Also speaking, Alhaji Abbas Shehu, the Ward Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), described the gesture as unprecedented in the area.
Shehu said the distribution was in line with the directive and humanitarian disposition of Gov. Idris to support the less privileged in society.
“This initiative reflects the governor’s commitment to improving the living conditions of vulnerable citizens across the state,” he said.
He commended Abubakar-Zauro for complementing the efforts of the state government and urged other well-to-do individuals to emulate the gesture.
Ashenews reports that the beneficiaries of the intervention included religious and political leaders, commercial motorcycle operators (Okada riders), persons with special needs and other vulnerable groups in the community.
A cross section of beneficiaries who spoke with NAN expressed appreciation for the support and prayed for the continued success of the organisers.
