The Federal Government has approved a new veterinary hospital for Gombe State through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
The National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Mr. Sanusi Abubakar, announced this on Tuesday during a two-day technical visit to Gombe.
Abubakar led a team to inspect the proposed site for the hospital and assess the progress made so far.
He said the government plans to build veterinary hospitals in different regions to help farmers access quality animal healthcare.
According to him, the hospital in Gombe is part of the next phase of building new facilities under the L-PRES project.
He explained that the hospital would help improve animal health services, track diseases, and certify livestock products for local markets and export.
The hospital will be built inside Gombe’s newly created 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Development Zone.
After inspecting the site, Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s preparation and the significant progress that had been made.
“This project is the first of its kind in Nigeria. Gombe is leading the way, and we hope other states will follow this example,” he said.
He promised that the national office of L-PRES will continue to support livestock projects in Gombe and ensure the hospital is completed.
Gombe’s L-PRES Project Coordinator, Mr. Usman Abubakar, described the project as a big achievement for the state.
He thanked the national team for choosing Gombe to host the important facility and assured them that the state government will give full support.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the veterinary hospital will be a centre for animal treatment, disease diagnosis, training, and research.
It is expected to improve livestock health and boost animal production in Gombe and across northern Nigeria.
