In a strategic move to enhance food security and agricultural productivity, the Federal Government of Nigeria is actively pursuing a partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP).
This collaboration aims to significantly boost the nation’s agricultural sector and improve food security.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun met with a high-level WFP delegation led by Mr. Chris Nikoi, the newly appointed Regional Director.
The meeting marked a pivotal step in aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The discussion, which also included the Minister of Agriculture & Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, focused on exploring partnership opportunities and collaborative initiatives to drive agricultural growth in Nigeria. The WFP delegation emphasized their commitment to supporting Nigeria through various initiatives, including service delivery programs for fertilizers and seeds—key components for boosting farming output and ensuring food security.
Mr. Edun praised the WFP for their proactive engagement and highlighted the importance of their support in advancing the President’s Reform Agenda, particularly in enhancing food availability and agricultural production. He assured the delegation of the Federal Ministry of Finance’s commitment to facilitating the successful implementation of these initiatives.
This partnership is expected to lead to substantial improvements in food security and agricultural productivity, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic growth and development. With this collaboration, Nigeria anticipates enhanced service delivery, increased agricultural output, and a more promising future for its citizens.
