ASHENEWS reports that agriculture, health, and other science-related courses got 3,572 students as Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, on Wednesday, matriculated 5,859 newly admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashir Garba, said that the institution currently has 17 faculties, a College of Health Sciences, a College of Postgraduate Studies, a School of Medical Laboratory Science, a School of Public Health, 15 research centers, and central research laboratories, among others.
According to him, the 5,859 newly admitted students were offered admission to study various courses across different faculties and colleges of the university.
Agriculture and sciences
The breakdown of the number of admitted students at various faculties includes: Faculty of Agriculture – 409; Faculty of Physical and Computing Sciences – 607; Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences – 1,301; Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – 95; College of Health Sciences – 766; Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences – 150; and Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Design – 244.
Other courses
Others are: Faculty of Arts – 210; Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies – 206; Faculty of Education and Extension Services – 946; Faculty of Law – 80; Faculty of Management Sciences – 415; and Faculty of Social Sciences – 430.
Prof. Garba reminded the newly matriculated students that degrees at Usmanu Danfodiyo University are awarded based on both learning and character.
He urged the students to remember that the hopes of their families and communities rest on their shoulders, encouraging them to focus on their studies and make the most of the golden opportunity offered by university education.
The Vice Chancellor also called on the students to work hard to graduate within the stipulated time, advising them to shun bad company and be good ambassadors of their respective families.
He commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu toward the development of education in Nigeria, announcing that the university will celebrate its 50th anniversary this September.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Umar Aliyu, and the Chairman of the Ceremonies Committee, Professor Salisu Ahmad Yakasai, congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to avoid illicit acts and abide by the university’s rules and regulations.
