The Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Osun State Chapter, Mr. Ganiyu Musefiu, has announced plans to commence the digital registration of farmers across the state.
Musefiu disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Osogbo on Saturday.
He explained that the national body of AFAN had already embarked on the digital registration of members nationwide, adding that the Osun chapter would begin its registration exercise in the coming weeks once all modalities were finalised and a date officially announced.
According to him, the registration will enable farmers to benefit from various agricultural programmes and interventions facilitated by the association in collaboration with government agencies.
Musefiu said a central information unit, equipped with a toll-free line, had also been established to allow farmers make inquiries and lodge complaints when necessary.
He urged farmers in Osun to take advantage of the digital registration to become part of the association and access the numerous opportunities available through AFAN and government initiatives.
The AFAN chairman appealed to the state government to accord greater attention to farming and farmers, stressing that doing so would encourage more people—especially youths—to embrace agriculture.
He emphasised the importance of achieving food sufficiency within the state and the region, warning that any disruption in food supply from other areas could lead to severe shortages.
Musefiu, therefore, called on the state government to ensure that only genuine and practicing farmers benefit from its agricultural programmes.
