The Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, on Thursday, 31st July 2025, flagged off the distribution of free fertilizer for the 2025 wet farming season to his constituents.
Speaking during the flag-off in Sokoto, Senator Ibrahim Lamido said that 16 trucks of fertilizer would be distributed to farmers across eastern Sokoto.
Represented at the event by Kabiru Sarkin Fulanin Goronyo, Senator Lamido emphasized that the fertilizer was provided free of charge for small, medium, and large-scale farmers, including farmers’ associations in the area.
He said no one would be asked to pay a penny, adding that the gesture was part of the Senator’s commitment to the development of the area.
“This fertilizer is provided free of charge; no farmer should pay a penny,” he emphasized, noting that the fertilizer is not for sale.
Speaking at the event, former APC Sokoto East Zonal Chairman, Abu Baki Illela, praised Senator Lamido’s efforts towards the development of the Sokoto East Senatorial Zone, noting that the gesture came at the right time.
He expressed delight over the distribution of free fertilizer to farmers in the area, who are in dire need of it.
He also called on the distribution committee members to ensure that the fertilizer reaches the targeted farmers in rural communities.
Some members of the distribution committee who spoke to journalists assured that the fertilizer would be distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
Each local government area in the zone will receive 400 bags of fertilizer, which will then be distributed free of charge down to the ward level.
