The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office in Bauchi has promised to keep encouraging young people in the state to plant trees.
The head of the UNICEF office in Bauchi, Nuzhat Rafique, said this during a tree planting event at the College of Education Technical in Dass, held to celebrate World Environment Day 2025.
Rafique said it’s very important to get young people involved in protecting the environment because they are the future leaders and need a clean and safe planet.
She said, “Our land is our future, just like the young people are our future. We must take care of both,” explaining why youth should take part in tree planting and caring for the environment.
Rafique also said that climate change is a big danger to both children and nature. So, it’s very important to include young people and their communities in efforts to protect the environment.
“Young people are the strength of their communities and countries,” she said.“If they are involved, things will go better. They are the future, and we must help them grow with knowledge and responsibility.”
She added that UNICEF works with youth through programs like WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) and climate change activities. These efforts help young people learn about planting trees and caring for the environment.
Rafique said it’s important to keep planting trees and protecting the environment regularly. “We want young people and communities to keep planting every day and make it a lifelong habit,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, Chairman of Dass Local Government Council, Mohammad Jibo, thanked UNICEF, RUWASA, and ACRESAL for supporting the tree planting campaign.
He said the campaign was a big step forward in helping the community protect the environment.
Jibo said he is fully committed to protecting the environment. “We must all work together to keep our environment safe for future generations,” he said.
He ended by praising Dass College of Education and all the partners for organizing the tree planting event.
