A team from the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, visited some road projects in Cross River State.
They were joined by the Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, to inspect 32 kilometers of roads under construction.
The road projects include a 20km stretch from Okomita to Uyanga to Ehom in Akamkpa and Biase local governments, a 1.5km road from Idundu Junction to Idundu Bridge in Akpabuyo, and a 10.8km road from Aking to Osomba in Akamkpa.
Senator Ekpenyong said the projects show the committee’s strong commitment to improving development in the region. He explained that these roads will help people move goods more easily and connect communities.
He added that the roads are important because they will help farmers and traders transport their products. They will also make it easier for people to reach schools, markets, and hospitals.
Senator Ekpenyong said the current Senate, led by Senator Godswill Akpabio, will continue to support these types of development projects and ensure they are done well.
He also praised Cross River Governor Otu for his efforts in developing infrastructure. He thanked the NDDC MD, Dr. Ogbuku, for getting back to work quickly in Akamkpa, just 12 hours after celebrating his 50th birthday in Abuja.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC boss, promised that the Commission is focused on building high-quality roads that will truly help the people.
He said the NDDC is working to make travel easier and to help grow the economy in Cross River State and the wider region. He added that they will keep working with the Senate and others to make sure the projects are finished on time and in a transparent way.
