The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the head of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Munirudeen Oyebamiji, have been called by a committee in the House of Representatives. The committee wants to question them about the Baro Port project in Niger State.
The call to appear was made by Saidu Abdullahi, the chairman of the special committee set up to look into fixing and running the Baro Inland Port. He made this announcement during the committee’s meeting on Tuesday.
Oyetola and Oyebamiji must come with documents that show how money has been spent on the project so far.
Abdullahi said, “We want to see everything — all contract papers, reports showing what work was done and what wasn’t.”
He added that the committee wants all important documents about the Baro Port. He said they are not trying to attack anyone but are serious about finding the truth.
He explained that the issue has been given to their committee to investigate fully. They want to know how much money was paid to the contractor.
Abdullahi said they want a full financial report. He stressed that people should stop hiding the truth and that someone must be held accountable if anything went wrong.
He warned that the project has cost billions of naira and must not be allowed to go to waste. The House of Representatives will not accept that.
Finally, Abdullahi said it is the duty of the House to make sure that public money is not wasted like this again.
