The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Mr. Abdullah Ali Ahmed, has stated that doubts among some members of the National Assembly about the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway have been cleared.
Ahmed attributed this to the pace and quality of the road construction.
He made the remarks during an inspection tour of road projects in Lagos and neighboring states, alongside the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi.
“We thought this project would take forever, but the speed at which it’s progressing has dispelled doubts.
The quality of work here is top-notch,” he said.
Ahmed also praised the contractor, Hitech Construction Company Ltd., for demonstrating capacity.
“Nigerians need to see what’s happening here,” he added.
The spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South, Dr. Samuel Mamuyon, expressed hope that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would last up to 200 years.
“Nigerians can come and see for themselves. This is the most scrutinized and investigated coastal highway.
This is the best gift Nigerians can have. We thank God for President Bola Tinubu, who believes in Nigeria’s future,” he said.
The APC official described the highway as a development every country aspires to leave for its people.
“I thank the Minister of Works for his efforts in demonstrating that concrete-paved roads can work.
We want Nigerians to know that this is a reality,” he added.
Mrs. Chioma Nweze, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement for the Southeast, expressed gratitude to the National Assembly for supporting Tinubu and Umahi’s efforts in road infrastructure development.
“I thank the President for the roads being built across Nigeria.
We have observed that these roads connect every region,” Nweze said.
She also hoped that the roads under the Tinubu administration would outlast the current generation.
“We are here to thank the President for remembering all regions. All ongoing projects under the Ministry of Works are progressing simultaneously,” she added.
Mr. Bola Ajilesoro, a Member of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, stated that Tinubu’s legacy projects would inspire hope among Nigerians.
“I have visited the North Central, North West, North East, South South regions, and now I’m here.
Honorable Minister, you are a perfect fit for this project.
It’s a legacy project that will uplift all of us,” he said.
The lawmaker also thanked President Tinubu for conceiving the coastal highway.
