By Anna Moses [ASHENEWS] – June 30, 2025: In a gesture of solidarity and support, Prestige FM Radio, Minna, has donated relief materials worth several millions of naira to victims of the recent flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The donation was made during a condolence visit to the Mokwa Local Government Secretariat as part of the station’s corporate social responsibility. Representing the Executive Director of Prestige FM, Yusuf Ibrahim Ladan, the News Editor, Yakubu Mustapha Bina, handed over the items on behalf of the station.
Sixteen large sacks containing assorted clothing, including trousers, shirts, shoes, slippers, hijabs, and over 150 wrappers, were delivered to assist displaced families affected by the flood disaster.
Speaking during the visit, Ladan, through his representative, expressed deep concern over the tragic loss of lives and destruction caused by the floods. He urged residents to remain resilient and take proactive measures to prevent future disasters, including avoiding construction in flood-prone areas.
He also emphasized the importance of environmental awareness and compliance with safety guidelines, and called on media houses, corporate bodies, individuals, and non-governmental organizations to contribute to ongoing relief efforts, noting that government alone cannot meet all the needs of affected communities.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Niger State Government, Mohammed Jiya, a Field Officer with the State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), praised Prestige FM for the timely intervention and called on other stakeholders to emulate the gesture.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Mokwa Local Government, Abdullahi Muregi, represented by Councillor Mohammed Sani, expressed appreciation to the radio station, describing the donation as a meaningful show of empathy and community spirit.
The donated items are expected to provide some relief to hundreds of residents displaced by the devastating floods, which left a trail of destruction across several parts of Mokwa.
