The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rainy weather conditions across various parts of the country from Thursday through Saturday.
In its weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted isolated thunderstorms in the morning over parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Adamawa states.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to spread to Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa states.
For the North Central region, moderate rains are anticipated over parts of Niger State in the morning, with the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue states expected to experience moderate rains later in the day.
In the southern region, intermittent rains are forecasted for Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during the afternoon and evening hours.
On Friday, NiMet forecasts thunderstorms over Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, and Kano states in the morning, with scattered thunderstorms expected across the northern region later in the day.
The North Central region is predicted to see isolated rains in the morning and moderate rains later in the day, affecting areas including Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue.
The southern region is expected to experience cloudy skies in the morning, with intermittent rains occurring later in the day.
For Saturday, NiMet forecasts isolated thunderstorms in the morning across Sokoto, Kaduna, Bauchi, Zamfara, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi states, followed by widespread thunderstorms across the northern region in the afternoon and evening.
The North Central region is likely to experience moderate rains in the morning, with thunderstorms continuing through the afternoon and evening. Intermittent rains are anticipated across the southern region during the same period.
NiMet has advised residents, particularly in major cities, to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding from heavy downpours.
The agency also warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms in some areas, urging the public to take precautions and follow safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
