NiMet predicts 3-day thunderstorm, rain nationwide from Thursday

The Nigerian Meteorological  Agency (NiMet) has predicted rainy and thundery weather conditions from Thursday to Saturday across the nation.

NiMet`s weather outlook released in Abuja predicted moderate dust haze over parts of Borno, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kebbi and Sokoto States of the northern region during the forecast period.

According to it, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains are expected later in the day over parts of Taraba, southern Bauchi, southern Kaduna, Adamawa and Gombe States.

“For the North Central Region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the region with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kwara and Kogi States.

‘’Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are expected over parts of Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory and Benue states,’’ it said.

NiMet anticipated a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine over the southern region with chances of morning thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta States.

The agency envisaged thunderstorms with moderate rains in the entire region later in the day.

According to it, moderate dust haze is anticipated in the northern region on Friday with prospects of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rains over parts of Taraba and Adamawa States during the morning hours.

The agency predicted isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa and Gombe states later in the day.

“For the North Central region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the region with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Nasarawa and Benue states.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in the entire region.

“For the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the region with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Delta States,” it said.

The agency envisaged thunderstorms with moderate rains in the entire region later in the day.

NiMet predicted a slight dust haze over the northern region throughout the forecast period on Saturday.

According to it, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the North central region throughout the forecast period.

It forecast a cloudy atmosphere over the southern region with intervals of sunshine over the region with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Ondo, Ogun and Lagos States.

NiMet envisaged thunderstorms with moderate rains in the entire region later in the day.

 “Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, the public should take adequate precaution and ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision.

 “Dust particles are in suspension; the public should take necessary precaution.  Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets.

“Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees. Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it said.

The agency further urged the residents to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet by visiting its website www.nimet.gov.ng.
