The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) said that there will be thundery and rainy weather across the country from Friday to Sunday.
NiMet’s forecast, released in Abuja on Thursday, said there will be isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain in parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Taraba States on Friday morning.
NiMet also said that isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in parts of Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kebbi States.
For the central region, the weather will be cloudy with some sunshine in the morning, and there might be light rain in Niger, Kogi, and Benue States.
Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory.
Most parts of the southern region are likely to have moderate rain at times during the forecast period.
NiMet warned that there might be flooding in parts of Lagos, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.
On Saturday, the northern region will have cloudy skies with some sunshine. Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected later in the day in Taraba, Adamawa, southern Borno, Bauchi, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, and Katsina States.
In the central region, the morning will be cloudy with some sunshine and chances of light rain in Kogi and Benue States.
In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in most parts of the central region.
The southern region will have cloudy skies with chances of moderate rain in parts of Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States during the morning.
In the afternoon and evening, light to moderate rain is expected across most of the southern region.
On Sunday, the northern region will have cloudy skies with some sunshine. There could be isolated thunderstorms with light rain in Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina States in the morning.
Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in most parts of the northern region.
The central region will have cloudy skies with sunshine at times, and thunderstorms with moderate rain are possible in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue States in the afternoon or evening.
The southern region will have cloudy skies with moderate rain in parts of Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States in the morning.
In the afternoon and evening, moderate rain is expected across most parts of the southern region.
NiMet advised people not to drive in heavy rain and warned farmers not to use fertilisers or pesticides right before the rain to avoid losing nutrients.
They also said people should secure loose objects to prevent accidents, unplug electrical devices, and stay away from tall trees to avoid injury from falling branches.
Airlines are advised to get detailed weather reports from NiMet to plan their flights safely.
