The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) has asked the government to keep working closely with it on environmental planning and projects.
Dr. Efegbidiki Okobia, the National President of NES, made this appeal during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday to celebrate the Society’s 40th anniversary.
NES is getting ready to hold its 34th National Conference and 35th Annual General Meeting in Abuja from October 22 to 25, which will also mark its 40th anniversary.
Okobia said that over the past 40 years, NES has taken part in many environmental projects locally and globally, offered expert advice on policies, and led advocacy efforts.
He described NES as Nigeria’s top environmental organisation. Its goal is to protect nature, build international partnerships, and improve the quality of the environment.
He said the 40th anniversary is not just about how long NES has lasted, but also a time to think about what it has achieved, the challenges it has faced, and its fresh commitment to Nigeria and other developing countries.
Okobia asked the media to help spread environmental awareness and make sure organizations are doing the right thing. He also encouraged the public to live responsibly and take part in protecting the environment.
