The Lagos State Government on Tuesday encouraged residents to change their behavior to help solve environmental problems in the state.
The government also introduced new environmental ambassadors who will promote sustainability and lead awareness campaigns across Lagos.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared this news while welcoming the top five winners of the “Lagos Has Talent” Climate Edition at his office in Alausa, Ikeja. He said their talents would help educate people and support a cleaner, healthier environment.
He explained that the “Lagos Has Talent” project started in 2023 to give young people a voice on climate issues. It became more popular in February 2024 when Taooma, a well-known social media figure, was introduced as the Youth Influencer for the Climate Youth Engagement.
Wahab said the new ambassadors would focus on teaching people, especially young ones, to adopt better attitudes and habits to fight climate change and manage waste properly.
“We are happy to welcome these passionate young people to our team,” he said. “Their talents—like poetry, art, music, fashion design, and filmmaking—can help us build a better future for Lagos.”
He also said the competition wasn’t just about winning prizes. The winners would now work closely with the ministry as ambassadors, helping to achieve the state’s environmental goals.
Wahab called on everyone to support the ambassadors and adopt eco-friendly lifestyles, while the ambassadors continue to use their talents to spread environmental messages.
