Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State says his administration has launched concrete measures to address the lingering water deficit in the state capital.
Yusuf made the statement on Wednesday while inspecting the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, citing pipe leakages and faulty pumping machines as major problems.
The governor visited the plant “to ascertain the root causes of the water shortage” and develop practical solutions to restore regular water supply in Kano city.
He told reporters that preliminary investigations revealed that “pipe leakages and malfunctioning water pumping machines” were disrupting efficient water distribution.
Yusuf promised that repairs of damaged pipelines and rehabilitation of faulty equipment at key water facilities would begin soon.
He also issued a stern warning to companies and individuals involved in the unauthorized diversion of water meant for public use.
“Diverting potable water for commercial purposes will no longer be tolerated. Anyone found culpable will face strict sanctions,” he said.
The governor emphasized that ensuring access to clean water remains a top priority of his administration, noting that it was one of his key campaign promises.
He also pledged to improve the state’s water infrastructure and service delivery, adding that the measures being implemented would soon bring lasting relief to residents affected by the prolonged water shortage.
