Capital Apex Synergy Global Services Ltd, a mining company, has warned that illegal mining activities are hampering the growth and potential of Nigeria’s mineral sector.

Mr. Olurotimi Ogunnaike, an engineer with the firm, made this statement during a press briefing in Abuja. According to him, unauthorised mining poses a major challenge to the sector and undermines its contribution to national development.

“I urge the Federal Government to urgently address illegal mining activities in the country,” Ogunnaike said. “It is essential that all companies operating in Nigeria hold proper documentation from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development. This will help identify illegal operators.”

He dismissed allegations that the company was involved in illegal mining in Nasarawa State, stating that Capital Apex Synergy is actually a victim of such illicit activities.

“We are law-abiding citizens seeking to develop the country in line with the president’s economic reforms by bringing in investors,” he said. “Any claim of illegal mining against us is false.”

Earlier, Mr. Aliyu Danlandi, the company’s public relations officer, stressed that the accusations were aimed at tarnishing the company’s reputation. He said that Capital Apex Synergy, in partnership with Nigerian-owned Nizhong Mining Company Ltd, is fully registered and holds valid licenses at both national and state levels.

“Let me make this clear: Capital Apex Synergy operates strictly within the law, contrary to allegations made by May Day A Global Ventures,” Danlandi said. “We possess all necessary mining documents, licences and permits. Our operations are transparent and fully compliant.”

Danlandi explained that the company has been unable to begin mining at its site in Rafin Gabbas, Agwada Town, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, due to illegal encroachment by unauthorised miners.

He added that Capital Apex Synergy has submitted petitions with supporting evidence to relevant authorities, including multiple government ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), and security bodies at both state and federal levels.

Danlandi appealed to President Bola Tinubu—citing his focus on the youth and foreign investment—to intervene in the situation.

“As young Nigerians, we have attracted foreign investors and created employment opportunities for the youth, but our efforts are being sabotaged,” he said.
