The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has urged residents of Mokwa Local Government Area in Niger State to strictly adhere to safety directives issued by relevant emergency agencies, following a devastating flood that has destroyed hundreds of properties and left several people, including children, unaccounted for.

In a statement issued by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Affairs, Nura Tanko Wakili, HYPPADEC expressed deep concern over the disaster and extended heartfelt sympathies to affected families and communities.
“The Commission expresses its profound concern over this unfortunate incident and offers heartfelt prayers for God’s divine intervention. We pray for comfort and strength for the affected families, the entire Mokwa community, and the Government of Niger State during this trying time,” the statement read.
While assessments of the damage are ongoing, the Commission urged residents to remain vigilant and to fully comply with safety advisories from emergency and disaster response agencies to avoid further loss of lives and property.
HYPPADEC also appealed to all levels of government, as well as individuals and organizations, to swiftly support those affected by the disaster.
“We call on all relevant stakeholders to take urgent action in providing relief and assistance to cushion the impact of this tragedy on the affected communities,” the statement added.
