The latest warning comes as Lagos and other parts of Nigeria are seeing more unpredictable and heavy rain. This change in weather is linked to global climate change and is raising concerns about how prepared cities are for flooding and how to protect people most at risk.
Last Friday, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) said there would be thunderstorms and rain from Saturday to Monday in many parts of the country.
NiMet predicted that there would be thunderstorms early Saturday morning in parts of Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa states in the northern region.
Later on Saturday, more thunderstorms and rain are expected in Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi states.
NiMet also said that isolated thunderstorms and rain could happen in parts of Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers states later in the day.
6For Sunday morning, NiMet expects thunderstorms in parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states in the north.
Later on Sunday, more thunderstorms and rain are likely in Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, and Bauchi states.
In the North-Central region, NiMet expects a mix of clouds and sunshine with chances of morning thunderstorms in parts of Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory.
