The Ekiti State Government has begun dredging waterways and rivers in Ado-Ekiti to curb flooding during the rainy season.
Chairman of the Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency (EKSEPA), Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, led board members to inspect the ongoing works at Iso and Oshodi streets along Afao Road, Elemi and Iremide rivers, Ureje River (Olujoda–Falana to Moferere Street), and GRA Third Extension on the new Iyin Road.
Oguntoyinbo expressed satisfaction with the projects, saying Governor Biodun Oyebanji remains committed to protecting lives and property. He warned residents against building on waterways and urged strict enforcement of town planning regulations.
EKSEPA General Manager, Mr. Olukayode Adunmo, said dredging has now covered 10 kilometers of rivers across Ado-Ekiti, up from the initial three.
“Recent heavy rainfall could have caused disasters, but the governor’s prompt intervention averted it. His proactive steps are helping Ekiti stay safe,” he said.
Adunmo added that the government has sustained flood-control measures since 2023 and will continue to safeguard communities at risk.
