A major bridge that connects parts of Kano State to Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and some eastern states has collapsed.
The Kano State Police Command, in a midnight statement, confirmed that the Yaryasa Bridge in Tudun Wada Local Government Area collapsed after heavy rainfall in the area.
Police spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said measures have been taken to secure the site and prevent accidents.
He explained that barricades, detours, and warning signs have been placed to redirect traffic and alert motorists of the danger.
Officers from the Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), and members of the Transport Union are also on the ground to manage traffic flow.
The police said the collapsed bridge area has been completely sealed off to stop vehicles from getting close to the danger zone.
Motorists travelling through Tudun Wada and nearby areas have been advised to obey traffic officers and use the designated alternative routes to stay safe.
The police further appealed to road users to be patient, follow traffic guidelines, and prioritize safety while driving in the affected areas.
Kiyawa assured the public that the police are working with other relevant agencies to reduce the impact of the incident.
